A book entitled "Japanese Stone Gardens, How to Make and Enjoy Them" by Kazuhiko Fukuda, published by Charles E Tuttle Company, 1st edition 1970. An inscription inside shows it belonged to Robin Spencer. One of the illustrations (Flagstone Pavement of Tenju-an Garden) somewhat resembles the Carpet Path at York Gate which can be seen here, suggesting that this book may have provided the inspiration.
