Rhododendron susan flowering in front of the wall in the Old Orchard with a flowering cherry (Prunus amanagowa) behind it.
In her talk York Gate 1965 (YGA00828) Sybil describes this slide as follows "A lovely hybrid rhododendron called Susan This is rather a successful planting in the shrub border, the tall spire is Prunus amanogawa which is pale pink. The rhod. is Susan, which is mauve, purple in the bud, and the white shrub is Spirea Arguta. It makes a very pleasing picture as they are all out together."
